Statement on COVID-19

At present, it is not yet clear whether the government’s approach to tackling SARS-CoV-2 is the optimal one. In the absence of consensus, a number of scientists and public health organisations have raised concerns about why the UK’s tactics differ from many other countries.

Noting that the government is being advised by respected medical scientists, there are nonetheless questions to be answered. Regardless of whether its response is ‘right’ or ‘wrong’, the government must be held to account. This is the job of the opposition and what SfL intends to assist with in.

To this end, we invite comments or questions regarding this topic to be submitted to us, which will be passed on to both the current and future party leadership. Contributions from those working in relevant fields (including but not limited to public health, epidemiology, virology, immunology, and psychology) are welcome.

Please feel free to share this call publicly and submissions can be made by emailing chair@sfl.org.uk

We do, however, re-iterate that we will NOT be issuing medical, public health, or any other kind of advice, nor taking a position for or against the government’s response at this time. Rather, we intend to gather suggestions from within the experts of the scientific community which can be used by the Labour Party to hold the government to account.
